NWTRCC will be hosting an introduction to war tax resistance (WTR 101) workshop on Saturday September 27th at 12 pm Eastern/ 9 am Pacific time. The session will be co-facilitated with members of the Pace e Bene tax resistance affinity group. Some of the topics included will be myths about WTR, navigating NWTRCC’s website, looking at the new War Resisters League WTR guide book, addressing fears people have about the IRS and encouraging people in attendance to think about next steps in refusing to pay for war.
This will be one of nearly 5,600 actions taking place during Campaign Nonviolence Days of Action that occur around the International Day of Peace, September 21st, as recognized by the United Nations and October 2nd, the International Day of Nonviolence. The theme this year is Nonviolence to Self, Others, World and Earth. For the past 12 years, individuals and groups have joined in these actions. You can find the list of actions and how to participate on their website.
We would love for you to share this event with your networks, especially those who have expressed interest in learning more about refusing to pay for war. The details and registration for the session can be found here. We are grateful for the opportunity to make WTR more accessible and to be part of this annual event. This allows us to be a part of a wide network to engage in peace daily. We in the U.S. have a unique opportunity to resist paying for the carnage of war. Throughout most of the world, many people do not have the opportunity to withhold some of their earnings going towards military spending.
Members of NWTRCC have been part of the Pace e Bene affinity group that has been meeting monthly for the past few years. It has been a small group that has offered support and encouragement to each other. Some of the collective knowledge that is such a core part of NWTRCC has been shared with members. It helps to learn from the experiences of others in how to navigate letters from the IRS or how to share info about war tax resistance with friends and family. If you would be interested in joining the group please feel free to reach out to outreach@nwtrcc.org.
Since last December, NWTCC has been hosting a monthly social hour. The next gathering will be Sunday September 21st. If you are interested in attending you can register on our website or here. Lastly, our website received an update. It is worth a visit and we welcome your feedback!
