“Organizing Resistance for Peace”

Friday, April 29

8:00 pm – 9:30 pm (5p-6:30p Pacific): Social Hour

This session will be composed of two separate 25-minute breakout sessions. In each breakout session, participants will be randomly placed in groups of 5 people. Each group will be given a set of questions aimed toward folks getting a chance to know one another and their own resistance stories. Normally, when we gather in person, folks get a chance to chat with people they do not know during breaks and meals. This session provides an opportunity for participants to chat with one another, something that is often missing in large online gatherings.

Saturday, April 30

11:00 am – 1:00p (8a-10a): Panel on Vibrant Local WTR Groups

  • This session will feature three war tax resisters that have either been involved with starting a local war tax resistance group or keeping one active. They will share personal stories and challenges. The panelists will be H. A. Penner of 1040 for Peace in Pennsylvania, Ginny Schneider who has been an active WTR organizer in Maine and New Mexico, and Kathy Labriola of Northern California War Tax Resistance / People’s Life Fund.

Break

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm (11a-1p): Panel on WTR Outreach with Younger Activists

  • This session will feature three younger activists who will share their thoughts on war tax resistance and outreach to younger folks. The specific members of the panels are still being determined, but two of the three panelists will be activists who participated in NWTRCC’s focus groups two year ago. They will share what their initial thoughts on WTR when they learned about it during the focus group sessions and what they think about WTR now.
