November 8-10, 2024

Weekend Schedule (preliminary schedule)

(Times listed are Eastern & Pacific – Please adjust times for your area)

“Resisting Together”

Friday, November 8

8:00 pm – 9:30 pm (5p-6:30p Pacific): Music & Social Hour

Mary Sprunger-Froese will gather us together with three songs having a war tax resistance / anti-war theme. Then, there will be two separate 25-minute breakout sessions. In each breakout session, participants will be randomly placed in groups of 5 people. Each group will be given a set of questions aimed toward folks getting a chance to know one another, share resistance stories, and share thoughts on future resistance based on the results of the November election.  This session provides an opportunity for participants to chat with one another, something that is often missing in large online gatherings.

Saturday, November 9

11:00 am – 12:30p (8a-9:30a): Memorial & Future Meetings Discussion

  • We will reserve the first half hour of this session to remember those war tax resisters who have recently passed away. During the last hour of the session, we will discuss different options for future NWTRCC gatherings. For most of NWTRCC’s history, local groups hosted meetings. Even though we have seen a recent resurgence in war tax resistance, this has not led to a resurgence of local groups.

Break

1 pm – 2:30 pm (10a-11:30a): Creative Outreach

  • This session will feature a panel who have incorporated created forms of social justice and WTR outreach in our communities and on college campuses. This panel will include Sue Barnhart of Oregon, who has incorporated craft and performance art into her resistance; and Captain “A” of Wisconsin, who organized a Tax Day bike ride while resembling a superhero. Please bring your own stories of creative outreach to share.

Break

3:00 pm – 4:00 pm (12p-1:00p): Outreach to Peace Churches

  • This session will feature a discussion among members of Peace Churches about garnering support (financial and otherwise) for war tax resistance.

Break

4:30 pm – 5:45 pm (1:30p-2:45p): Concurrent Sessions for Newly Interested and Current War Tax Resisters

  • War Tax Resistance 101: An introduction to the why and how of this form of resistance, with discussion of potential consequences and resource referral. For people new to WTR or just getting started. Facilitated by Chrissy Kirchhoefer, NWTRCC Communications Consultant
  • War Tax Resistance 201: Updates, trends, and Q&A for current war tax resisters. With NWTRCC Coordinator Lincoln Rice and the expert resisters in attendance!

Break

7:00 pm – 8:30 pm (4p-5:30p): Organizing a War Tax Resistance 101 Session
